Overcoming a lack of enthusiasm for rowing

We got a question from a reader

“What are the words of inspiration you would give to a rower who is lacking enthusiasm?”

My answer is this

  1. Why are you rowing.  What’s your goal?  Write this down.  Make it clear and very specific.
  2. What are the steps that will take you towards your goal.  Make these very small steps that can be achieved and measured as progress within 4 – 6 weeks.
  3. Every time you lack motivation – look at your next goal and the next step to take you there.  Say to yourself, Will doing this training session help me towards my goal?  Can I adapt the training session to make sure it adds to my goal?

And read these 8 motivational quotes from Olympic Gold medalist Brad Alan Lewis

You may find it helpful to keep a daily diary of your training and progress towards your goals.
