USA, China, Poland, New Zealand, Great Britain, Australia

GB lead off the start with the rest level. They lead by three-quarters of a length, still at R39 after 400m. The Australians are holding them to half a length. These two crews just have clear water over Poland. GB still pressing on but Australia still holding them. GB rowing long and press through 1000m. Their lead remains. Poland have a length clear of New Zealand in fourth. GB press off the half way mark. This takes them just clear of Australia but they can’t take any more as Australia respond and hold them. GB go early and Australia try to hold on. GB pull away but Australia are coming back. Another move from GB and there’s no stopping them now. Australia can’t handle the pace. GB win. It’s gold for Grainger and Watkins! Australia silver, Poland are lengths back in third. Grainger has finally secured her gold medal and raises her face to the skies.
