Sarah Lewis, of Falmouth Rowing Club tried our the Dreher Apex Sculls and provided us with her opinions and review.

Which product(s) did you try?

Apex sculls

What comparable equipment do you usually use

Concept smoothie sculls

How long / how many outings did you do?

4 or 5 outings

What were your first impressions?

Very good grip at catch, nice feel.

When you did your first outing was it easy to use? And if it was not easy, what did you find hard or not intuitive?

Took a little while to get used to the apparent extra grip and adjust technique.

Did you do any tests to compare to your previous equipment?

Compared speed coach splits – not much apparent difference – found them to feel comfortable in good conditions but not so easy to use on a windy outing – perhaps the different weighting to my usual sculls.

Anything else you want to tell us that could help us improve our service or product range?

The sculls are obviously high quality but the amount of gain from using them isn’t enough to justify the cost for me personally at the moment – I would consider them at the point of upgrading though.
