Lauren Greeves, one of the Aberdeen Rowing Club tried our the Coxmate SX and provided us with her opinions and review.
What comparable equipment do you usually use
How long / how many outings did you do?
What were your first impressions?
That it was useful to have a split and exact distance rowed within the boat to feed back to the rowers.
When you did your first outing was it easy to use? And if it was not easy, what did you find hard or not intuitive?
The basic settings were simple enough to use and fairly well explained however I found it difficult to access the menu and change settings whilst still maintaining control of the boat.
What did the coach think?
The saving aspect of splits and distance for download onto a computer is useful.
What did the athletes / cox think?
Rower: useful to have the split.
Cox: allowed me to give more directive feedback to the boat with figures that backed up what I was saying
Anything else you want to tell us that could help us improve our service or product range?
Would there be any way to get a graph or read out on how fast the boat speed is ie: meters per second rather than a split as it would give allow the rowers to know how efficient they are being through the recovery?
Answer: Yes the boat speed offers both Meters per second and 500m split… Go into set up to change the display option. Additionally you may like to have “Distance moved per stroke” showing so that you can see whether the crew maintains their effectiveness and efficiency as they get tired through a piece.
