I am writing this on Friday, August 8th, the day heralded as the new beginning for China, the opening day of the Olympic Games 2008.
I watched the first day of the rowing this morning, what a day for the Kiwis! Seven of the New Zealand crews were on the water today and they brought home five first places and two seconds.
Simon Barnes who writes on sport and nature for the Times is one of my favourites. His pieces often look behind the obvious and trite and he frequently sees beauty and poetry in sport.
