Hanlan’s Spirit: Training for Flow by Jimmy Joy

$31.44

Jimmy Joy brings us Hanlan’s Spirit, a book which examines the concept of “flow” in rowing and sculling and how to achieve it.

In summary, the book blends the story of champion Canadian sculler, Ned Hanlan with how to coach your athletes to row or sull with flow.

Hanlen was the single sculling champion of the worls.  And also the first rower to lengthen boat slides to 24-26 inches long and because he lived on an island in a river he learned how to row with great ‘mindfulness’ and care that he moved with the boat.  Ths is what Jimmy Joy calls ‘Flow’.

The book is in two parts, the first sets out both the history of Ned Hanlan and Joy’s own philosophy of mind/body integration for optimal rowing and sculling experience.
The second part is a tutorial, taking the reader throughout four stages of the rowing stroke release,e recovery, drive and entry. Each explaining where and how to teach flow.
