The Oxford Junior Rowing Course (OJRC) is a non-residential course designed to introduce 10-18 year olds to the ultimate team sport of rowing as well as an often ignored set of practical skills that will quite simply help them get through life. The OJRC believe that with the right tools and understanding of their wellbeing and development, all children can flourish and ultimately reach their potential.

An activity as fulfilling and challenging as learning to row, even for just a few days or a week, can inspire young people to develop skills such as communication, resilience, leadership, team work, creativity, resourcefulness, decision making, time management and networking.

The people who are going to give you your ‘first break’ as professionals are looking for a lot more than just your education. Your qualifications help to get you noticed, but your experiences, your character, and your life skills are the key. These skills simply aren’t taught formally at schools but are often an add-on activity dependant on the resources available. When Life Skills are shared with 10-18-year-olds, they have a tangible effect on their ability to make the leap from education, to adult life, employment, and personal fulfilment.

The young people who sign on to the courses will develop a new ‘hard skill’, rowing, while also developing confidence and competence in the life skills most valued by employers and influencers.

Not only is the course a big win for parents seeking a fun and fulfilling activity for their children this summer, it is also a big win for those who take part.  We aim to leave them with a memorable experience, a love for rowing and a new confidence in coping with life’s everyday challenges.
