Sara has returned to the World Championships 25 years after she was a ‘spare’ for the USA team in 1985 and 1986. She coaches at UC Berkeley, California as Assistant Coach with a focus on the womens team.  She and Iva Obradovic have been together for a year and a half since she came to study at U Cal.

We asked Sara, “What’s changed at the Worlds since you were last here?”

It’s a bigger deal now copared to then.  The athletes are treated as world class athletes.

We also notice that everyone is fast.

How is the regatta going for you?

Today was  a really good outcome – we made the A final.  This is the first time that she’s made an a final and we’re really pleased.

Basically she went out there and executed the race plan really well.

[Iva came second behind Sweden’s Frida Svensson in the womens sculls semi final to qualify for the A final.]
