Can I save space in the boathouse storing oars?

Advertisements

Great question – many rowing clubs don’t have enough room for all the gear in their boathouse.

Space Saver Rowing Systems was founded by Douglas Lumsden in order to overcome these problems and help you get more gear into less space.

His first products were the Oar Hanging rack and Scull Hanging rack, both sold by Rowperfect.

Both have a similar design – opposing cuto-outs hang the oars by the button so they are inter-leaved at the spoon.  Each one does not hang vertically but overlaps the oar spoons.  Because of the individual cups holding the oar you can take out one oar from the very back without disturbing those in front.

How much space do I need for a quad set of oars?

SSRS oar hanging racks take up very little space (22 x 97.5 x 30 cms) and yet hold 8 pairs of oars, by

comparison the Sculling oar rack is 87 cm long!

So one bracket can take two quads or two eights worth of oars.

You can mount the brackets close together with a mere 25-30 cms between each one.  This compacts oar and scull storage massively compared to other brackets or horizontal storage.  Take a look at these photos of alternative rowing oar storage solutions.
