Support RRC Members and Save a Life

Today we offer you the opportunity to support members of the
Reading Rowing Club in their toughest challenge yet—racing in the Coniston Challenge to raise funds for the Alder Hey Imagine Foundation, and save the lives of young ones throughout the UK.

Some of you may know Duncan Coneybeare, a longstanding member of Reading Rowing Club.  What you may not know is that his young daughter, Eleanor, fell critically ill last month and was taken into Macclesfield Hospital and then Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.  Thanks to the skill, dedication and care shown by the medical staff in these hospitals, Eleanor has been able to beat meningococcal septicaemia, although she has lost parts of her leg and fingers.

It is this care and dedication by the Macclesfield Hospital and the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital that has inspired 6 RRC “All Stars” to come out of rowing retirement and take on the Coniston Challenge to raise funds through the Just Giving Foundation for the brilliant work these hospitals are doing.

While the team has all raced and won rounds at Henley Royal Regatta together in the past. To raise funds for the Imagine Appeal, they now find themselves up against a unique all-day event, which entails a 17 km mountain bike race through Grizedale Forest, a 3 km kayak trial across Coniston Waters, and finally a trek up the Old Man of Coniston—a far cry from racing 2k at Dorney!

Please support this team—Chris Jeffcoat, Dan Johnson, Duncan Coneybeare, Geoff Parr, Hugh Mortimer, Paul Hatcher—as they support the UK’s children, and don’t forget to follow the race on July 9th, 2011.
