Appreciation for Rowperfect Tideway Steering

I coxed our masters F 8+ at the Vesta Head, and thoroughly enjoyed it, in lovely conditions. Each time I cox the Tideway I remind myself on the best course and the rules and regulations, slightly difficult when the course is reversed.

Probably because I’m old (69) and conditioned to do these things. I found your emails about the Tideway steering very useful. I am appalled by the start marshalling of many coxswains at these events, it is almost as if brains and an ability to count are left on the river bank.

I encountered no problems when racing, but returning to our boating area, again the coxing and safety of the boats leaves a lot to be desired.

We interviewed Tim Edsell of Cox’n School on RowingChat and he says he can tell a coxswain’s skill by their ability to handle and control the boat.

Your observations are instructional and timely.

Thanks
